A MUCH NEEDED VACATION

This is the lovely town of Jim Thorpe, P.A.

We had heard that it was a very charming place,
and that proved to be true!

I will take you on a picture trip.



The streets are narrow and the whole town
reminded me of a small European town.



I love the architecture of all the buildings,
old, warm and quaint.



There is even an Opera House!

This was intriguing and amusing.

Wonder where it came from.

This Inn is very large and you
could also dine there.

Another Inn. There were lots of them

to stay at.

This is the famous Albright Mansion.
Many famous people visited here long ago.
You can also stay at the Mansion.
Unfortunately they only had double beds
and queen size..... and this gal needs her space!

We ate all of our meals at the Inn... I should say...dined.
They have a wonderful chef and every meal
was superb.

This is the train station for the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.
October is the time to see the changing leaves,
as it snakes it's way through the mountains.

We loved this little street called Race Street.
It could have been anywhere in Europe.
Cute little shops and Restaurants too.

And there is my dapper hubby.

For anyone following my blog, you will understand
that I could not resist the red doors.
Red being my favourite color!

And this church had wonderful red doors!

This church looked downright medieval.

The whole town had beautiful doors.
I could have shown a lot more.

After our stay in this sweet place,
we were off to Lancaster County for days
of antiquing, shopping, flee marketing
and just plain sight seeing.

I found many wonderful things to use with my
dolls, ......antique and vintage of course.

So now it is back to reality and sewing, sewing

sewing, because my next shows will be in November.

To many ideas and not enough time!!!!!!!!

WITCHING HOUR IN BLACK AND WHITE

Let me introduce you to Hepseba.
Hepseba is a good and very friendly witch.

She is 32 1/2 " tall, but sits on her weighted
bottom about 14 " high.

Her jacket is made from antique fabric.
The skirt is a reproduction fabric called shirting.
It is trimmed with antique hand crochet lace
and vintage ribbon.



I hand-sculpted her face from paper-clay.
Her body is fabric.

She loves to wear her paper hat tied with
vintage ribbon under her chin.

Her hair is soft black sheep's wool.



Here you can see a close-up of the lace
and her very long feet adorned with little
jingle bells.

That lets everyone know, that she is coming.
Her little bells are glittered, all the better to
see her during night time flights!



Sometimes she likes to hide her face behind
her paper mask, which she holds in her wired fingers.

It is a game she likes to play when she meets
handsome young men at a " Witching Ball".

To ward off impudent young men, she will
wave her glittered skeleton.

Hepseba has been sold.

This is Mrs. Happy Hollow,
a white pumpkin doll.

She is a very fashionable lady in her
antique silk dress with a beautiful
lace blouse.

A very nice Frenchman once called her
" La Belle Dame".
Since then she carries these words
with her forever.
( I wonder if it makes her husband jealous? )

Happy is 25 1/2 " long and sits on her
weighted bottom 14 " high.




She has a very sweet personality.

Her weakness are hats and of course she
wears a silk hat to match her outfit.

Mrs. Hollow is made from brushed cotton.



Her waist has a beautiful antique flower.
It makes the whole outfit special.

Mrs. Happy Hollow has been sold.

Something New In Town

We live in a very small town.

And yes, we are only a one hour drive away from NYC,
where very much anything can be gotten.

We also have great supermarkets in our area,
but one thing most of us wished for,
was a farmers market close by.


Then something wonderful happened.

I don't know how it got started, but here we are!

Our own Farmers Market!!!!!!!!!!

A few month ago it appeared.

Granted it is still very small but it is growing fast.

Every time I go, new people are selling their goodies.

It is held every Wednesday in front of our town Hall
in a park setting.



Here is a little tour.

I am sorry I did not get pictures of everyone,
but our thanks go out to you all.



I am not a purple person , but
I am fascinated by these colors in the peppers
and eggplants.



My girlfriend Debbie tried these eggplants and loved them.

I will try them next.



I know these are "just" lettuce,
but look at the colors...
goes with my eggplants.



And here they are ..... my new addiction!

They are actually very small.

I peel them, cut them in halve lengthwise,
toss them with basil - olive oil.

A little salt, pepper, fresh Rosemary,
different varieties of Thyme, a little Marjoram
or whatever else I feel like.

Toss again and lay them cut side down.

Found a new product... non-stick aluminum foil.

I bake them at 375 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Baking time differs according to size, so watch out.

I set oven to broil , and top the eggplants with a mixture
of farm-fresh freshly grated mozzarella mixed
with freshly grated Parmesan cheese.

Broil for a few minutes until cheese is melted and golden brown.



I have been trying fingerling potatoes,
and also the little blue potatoes.

Ina Garden has some wonderful recipes
for the fingerling potatoes.

Ina is my inspiration and I own all of her cook books.

Not only do I love her cooking,
but one of my favorite aunts was named Ina,
so what's not to love!



By the way, that is where my fresh mozzarella
came from.

I have tried there little pizzas, gnocchi and
many of their breads, but have not yet
tried the crab cakes.



Loved that sign though... wonder if I eat them,
will I get tipsy? Hmmmmmm?

Must get them next...
hubby might appreciate them too.



Panzarella's also has all these wonderful breads.

I am trying my way thru them.

There goes the no-carb diet!



If you get too hungry browsing,
there are always remedies for that, just look
at the temptations.

Hmm, trying my way thru that too.



Now here are two of my favorite people.

They are fun to be around, always cheerful, always friendly.

The family has a farm in our town.

Besides fresh fruit and veggies,
they have wonderful flowers and I buy some every time I go.

The farm sells also eggs and chickens.

Must try that too.



Wonder if we could adopt him, chicken and all?

He is the nicest young man with a sense of humor.

He is proof that our young generation
is not all snarky and disinterested if it is not all about them.



This hard-working dad gets lots of help from his children too.

They sell great fruit. Don't know why I did not
get a picture of that, but you see some of their fruits
in my "still-life" at home.



This friendly fellow brings us cheeses,
smoked sausages and bread from the famous
Arthur Avenue in New York City.....
great Italian food!



We love this gentleman's cookies and
other baked goods.



These speak for them self! Delicious!!!!!!!!

My still-life....... wish I could paint.

Aren't the sunflowers stunning?

They get me every time.
